Jorge Gonçalves
CCMAR – Marine Science Centre, University of the Algarve
Marine Biologist and researcher at the Marine Science Centre (CCMAR) and invited teacher at Algarve and Cadiz’s Universities. PhD in fisheries biology and population dynamics of fisheries from the SW coast of Portugal, he has coordinated studies which led to the cartography of marine habitats, marine biodiversity and mapping of inshore fishing grounds, mainly at the south coast of Portugal. His works include a strong component of marine environment sampling using scientific diving and acquisition of underwater images with isolated cameras and ROVs. One of his main purposes is the improvement of efficiency, monitoring and management of protected marine areas, namely in the Algarve’s Coast (Project MARSW) always with a conservationist and sustainable development character.
